Can you locate through concrete or steel?

Concrete itself is not an impediment to locating, though steel is. It is impossible to locate through a steel plate (think lead to superman's x-ray vision).

Steel mesh and rebar grids can impede an accurate locate, but usually do not due to corrosion and non-conductive joints between rebar sections. Scanning is therefore usually possible through concrete floors, etc. depending on site-specific circumstances and conditions.
